Meet John Parkinson, our Volunteer Photographer
- On 18/08/2021
MannaCare has many volunteers who are committed and give generously of their time. Their involvement across all our services not only helps to enhance care for residents and clients, but also provides a wonderful link to the community.
John recently shared his thoughts about volunteering, his interests and what he enjoys to do in his spare time.
What made you decide to volunteer at MannaCare?
I was asked by a past volunteer if I would like to join his group to take photos of the men’s monthly dementia respite meetings.
What do you like about volunteering at MannaCare?
I find that the volunteers are really appreciated for what they do.
What do you do when not at MannaCare?
I work full-time in the Health Industry. I enjoy taking photos of anything – but especially people, and during the lockdown last year I re-discovered my old guitar and now I am happily strumming away.
What book are you reading at present?
‘Killing Time’ by Jimmy Barnes.
What was your last internet purchase?
Some business shirts – boring eh!
What is your secret indulgence?
Listening to music on You Tube at 2.00am.
What is your favourite program on TV?
At the moment it’s Peaky Blinders on Netflix.
What do you like to cook?
I particularly like to do a spicy chicken casserole – no recipe though.
Best thing to do on a Saturday night?
Go to the movies – which we haven’t done for a while.
But mostly to settle down with a good bottle of red and turn on the telly.
How do you relax?
Visiting beautiful wineries, walking, travelling, watching TV, taking photos, playing my guitar.
